Now I know it's not much of an update on the Pirates game, but I have started working on it again :P
I want to go the project alone, so I'm going to be making all the art myself, no matter how much I have to trace and reference. It may make the game not as look good in the long run but I think it's kind of liberating to not have to work with someone on a game. The only limitations are the limitations I put on myself.
So here, this is basically how the game is going to start out, in the thundering rain with you fighting Leviathan. I'm not going to show any more story then that, and this little preview here shows you different cannon types.
Use WASD to move, mouse to shoot and P to pause. Leviathan is there only as an art sample.

I really like it.
I was kind of confused by the trail of the boat. It looked great, but made me think the boat was like mechanical, which conflicts with all the pirate shit. So maybe make the trail come out of the sides of the boat before trailing behind it.
Also, I think having a huge map (or y'know the playing field) just emphasises how slow the boat is. I know boats ARE slow, but it drags the fun out of it. I'm guessing you can upgrade the speed later on, but this is a web game; people are going to decide wether they're going to keep playing or not pretty quickly, so it's really important you make a kinetic and fun first impression. I think you should either make the boat faster, or make the playing field smaller.
And PLEASE draw the leviathan from top-down. It looks bloody stupid. Maybe have it as sections, like with kinematics n all that shit.

Maybe thatls why I shouldn't be doing art, lol. I don't know about changing the trail of the boat but thanks a lot for your suggestion on seed and the leviathan, I"ll go back and try to fix those.
